The
"Hog Wild" left the dock from The Beach Marina a little
after 10:30pm on
Thursday. After a comfortable ride we tied off to an oilrig
to catch some
bait and to allow the captain to get a little rest.
By
6:30am, we were all ready for the search of the trophy Red Snapper.
We
bounced a few spots, picking up a few nice snapper in the 10-15
lb range, plus one nice cobia roughly weighing in around 40
lbs. Then Captain Ron put us on the haven of snapper we had
been looking for. The first snapper here was the biggest of
the trip he tipped the scales at just under 30lbs.
The
next few fish
landed were a respectable 26 and 24lbs, but didn't quite measure
up to the first. That spot produced five snapper over 20 lbs,
2 of which were over 25 lbs. Daniel even landed one that just
broke 21lbs. Wayne seemed to be the only one who could land
a nice grouper weighing in about 20lbs.
The rest of the day Friday produced some nice fish, many nice
snapper ranging
anywhere from 8lbs to 18lbs were caught. We fished the day and
found a rig with good lights to tie up to for the night. The
next day we finished up the trip by loading the boat with a
great catch of trigger for the freezer and another Cobia.
We
don't charter boats too often but after this trip we will be
regulars on the Hog Wild. There's not many trips that you come
home with 22 snapper in the 15 to 30 lb range. Captain Ron and
Tony were great, we have already booked
another
trip with them.
